CAPTION WRITING
Captions provide the audience with information beyond the photo. It can provide context and heighten the audiences visual experience. Great captions are clever, concise and simple. Below are the standard elements of a proper caption.
Lead
One to three words summary of your photo and how it relates to your story. Words used are similar to headline writing.
Descriptive Sentence
In one sentence describe the photo. Use present tense.
Surrounding Details
Give the audience 1-2 details. You can use quotes, data, other info or anything else not visible within the photo. Use past tense.
By Line
A line carrying the writer and photographer’s name.
