BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY
So how do you tell a story without words? Simple, by understanding how people look at pictures and the information they can gather you can create an amazing story based on pictures. Every story is made up of three key components...Beginning, Middle, and End. Every picture is viewed the same way. What you need to do is decide what and how people view it.
IDENTIFYING THE SUBJECT
BASIC SHOTS
WIDE
Location - establish “this is where things will take place.” Period/Time - establish what time of day or what period of time things are happening. Hide specific/smaller details - disguise details of who or what specifically is happening. Perspective - allow the audience to compare and contrast objects in the shot. |
MEDIUM
Subject - establish “this is who/what” the audience should see.” Where - Allows audience to still understand where subject is. |
CLOSE UP
Details - Points of emphasis for the audience. Emotion - Allows audience to connect with subject. |
EXTREME CLOSE UP
Detail - One point of emphasis for the audience. Hide - This shot could also be used to disguise a location. |
